Sixth Street, a private equity firm with over $100 billion in assets under management, has backed blockchain-based lending platform Figure Technology Solutions with a $200 million investment. Figure and Sixth Street revealed the investment in a press release on Feb. 27. The two firms have formed a joint venture in which Sixth Street’s Asset-Based Finance division will invest $200 million in equity into Figure. The funding will strengthen Figure Connect, the platform’s private credit lending division, by enhancing its loan origination capabilities. According to Sixth Street, the joint venture will inject over $2 billion of liquidity into the non-agency mortgage market through Figure. Meanwhile, Figure Technology will leverage this investment to scale its operations. “This joint venture between Figure and Sixth Street puts Figure Connect on a trajectory that is ultimately intended to lower costs for lenders and borrowers, similar to how borrowing costs were lowered with the introduction of TBAs in the agency mortgage space. It validates Figure Connect as the largest, most liquid, blockchain-based capital market,” Todd Stevens, chief capital officer at Figure, said. Launched in June 2024, the Figure Connect platform utilizes blockchain technology to offer benefits such as market risk hedging and sales automation. The Figure Connect network operates on the Provenance Blockchain, which Figure uses to onboard all loans. As a leading originator of real-world assets, the Provenance Blockchain enables Figure’s partners to access price discovery through on-chain loan pool bidding. In December 2023, over 40% of Figure’s transaction volume occurred on the blockchain. Through its partnership with Sixth Street, Figure will tap into additional liquidity and gain access to an “always-on” programmatic bid for its assets. The joint venture will provide liquidity to Figure’s users, with Figure’s loans set for securitization through this collaboration.

And I can confirm that being unemployed is a lot less relaxing than it looks,” he wrote. Bankman-Fried’s post, with restricted replies, also addressed workplace forces. “Firing people is one of the hardest things to do in the world. It sucks for everyone involved. My experience: a) it is usually not the employee’s fault that they got fired, b) it is usually correct to let them go anyway.” He added, “More often, the problem is that the company just doesn’t have the right job for them.” His tweet ignited speculation across the crypto community, prompting renewed interest in FTX-related assets. Previously trading at $1.55, FTT briefly spiked before pulling back to $1.69 at press time. Analysts linked the rally to traders betting on FTX’s bankruptcy case developments. Meanwhile, Unchained Podcast host Laura Shin joked about Bankman-Fried’s sudden concern for employees, quipping, “I wonder why none of the reasons he lists for having to let employees go is the one he would be most familiar with: perpetrating an $8 billion fraud.” Some speculate that his lawyers or close associates may have relayed the messages through the Corrlinks system, which allows federal prisoners to communicate externally. That said, the latest tweet comes just days after SBF reiterated in an interview with The New York Sun last week that FTX was solvent but illiquid at the time of its collapse. “At that time, there were enough assets to pay off all clients. The problem is that the liquidity crisis caused panic in the market and made it impossible to quickly cash out funds,” SBF had claimed. His first interview from prison coincides with FTX beginning to reimburse customers what it claims is the full amount they lost. However, compensation is based on cryptocurrency prices at the time of FTX’s 2022 collapse, sparking criticism from victims. SBF further insisted he has evidence proving he did not misappropriate billions in user funds and that the cash was available. Notably, the disgraced FTX founder also appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump for clemency, claiming that his prosecution was politically motivated by pressure from the Biden administration.

Lido’s customizable staking setup for Ethereum, stVaults, is coming to Northstake, a regulated platform offering compliant staking for institutions. On Feb. 21, Northstake announced that it was adopting the Lido offering to bring Lido staked ETH ( stETH ) liquidity to exchange-traded fund issuers. Lido ( LDO ) is the leading liquid staking protocol in the Ethereum ecosystem, while Northstake provides a validator marketplace that enables institutional participation. This, combined with Lido’s recently launched staking primitive, stVaults, will offer institutions greater flexibility in staking and utilizing ETH. stVaults are designed for institutional compliance and efficiency, making them a customizable staking solution. Northstake plans to integrate stVaults, set to launch later this year, into its validator marketplace. This integration will bring stETH’s deep liquidity to the platform’s market makers as they settle validator trades.
