BNY has announced the expansion of its digital assets platform with the launch of a new tool aimed at delivering both on- and off-chain accounting data to blockchain networks. Digital Asset Data Insights will enable BNY to leverage smart contracts to automate data delivery for investors in tokenized funds. “Accessing transparent data is critical to our clients’ success in today’s market,” said Caroline Butler, global head of digital assets at BNY. “Our platform’s support of Digital Asset Data Insights underscores our commitment to servicing the end-to-end asset lifecycle via distributed ledger technology, while maintaining data integrity from a trusted source.” The BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund will be the first to benefit from the new solution. BUIDL, which launched in 2024 and is a tokenized short-term U.S. Treasury fund, will have its data broadcast onchain by BNY. Commenting on the latest development, BlackRock’s head of digital assets Robert Mitchnick said: “BNY’s enablement of off-chain data insights to public blockchains is an unprecedented event and a significant milestone for the industry. Bhutan’s government transferred $32 million worth of Bitcoin to a new wallet today, its second crypto movement in two weeks, according to data from Arkham Intelligence. The transfer follows last week’s movement of $63 million in Bitcoin to three separate wallets. Druk Holdings, the government’s investment arm, maintains holdings of approximately 8,594 Bitcoin, valued at $729 million at current prices. Druk Holdings’ portfolio extends beyond Bitcoin to include Ether, LinqAI, Phil, and Apu Apustaja tokens. While crypto is not legal tender in Bhutan, the country has been mining Bitcoin using hydroelectric resources since 2019, building crypto wealth equivalent to 30.7% of its GDP. In January, Bhutan’s newly established Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Administration Region announced plans to include Bitcoin, Ether, and BNB in its strategic reserves. The initiative, announced under the Application of Laws Act 2024, aims to enhance the region’s digital asset ecosystem within a regulated framework. Canadian Bitcoin mining company Bitfarms secured up to $300 million in private debt from Australian multinational investment firm Macquarie to fund its data center development. Bitfarms has reached an initial agreement for a private debt facility of up to $300 million from Macquarie Equipment Capital to support its Panther Creek data center project in Pennsylvania. In an April 2 press release , the Canadian crypto mining company said that the first tranche of the loan is $50 million, with the rest available if the company “achieves specific development milestones.” Bitfarms CEO Ben Gagnon says the partnership with Macquarie is the beginning of its investment in the “near-term development” of Panther Creek data center, adding that amid the surging AI revolution and the growing demand for power and infrastructure, the financing “arrives at a pivotal time.” “The maturity of each facility is two years from the date of closing.
