INTRO

The AW LABORATORY LONDON HACKATHON, organized by AW Research , will take place from February 1st to February 29th, 2024, and registration is open starting today.

This online hackathon offers enthusiasts and developers of fully onchain games and autonomous worlds the opportunity to participate in a significant real-life event and a trip to ETHGLOBAL LONDON!

✨💰 Scholarship for Selected Participants Includes:

  1. Round-trip flights to the hosting city of the hackathon, London.

  2. Accommodation provided by AW Research throughout the duration of the event in ETH LONDON's Hacker house.

All applicants must complete an application form. The required submissions include:

  • Proof of ticket purchase; ensure you have a valid visa and ticket.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who successfully become ETH Global London hackers.

  • Participating projects must be MIT CC0 fully open-source.

  • AWR will not ask you for money.

HACKATHON THEME

There are a total of 7 experimental directions in this AW LABORATORY. Participating teams are required to explore these seven directions and develop games, mods, or frameworks during the hackathon to conduct concept validation, focusing on one or more of the themes mentioned above.

Theme 1 AW NPC

Autonomous World Non-Player Characters (AW NPCs) are pivotal in crafting game worlds that pulsate with life, embodying far more than the mere backdrop of a player's journey. They inject a multifaceted social dynamic into the digital realm, enriching the player experience with nuanced depth. These digital denizens are not simple adornments but are woven into the very fabric of the AW ecosystem's evolution and functionality.

Theme 2 AW Physics

In the realm of Autonomous World (AW) physics, the foundational principles that dictate the virtual environment's behavior are of paramount importance. Consistency and player expectations hinge on the virtual world's adherence to a defined set of physical laws. These principles govern the interactions and existence of objects within the game, shaping the gameplay mechanics and influencing the overall design of the game.

Theme 3 AW Time

Envision a realm where clocks are absent, where the linear march of seconds and minutes, a cornerstone of our global society, is replaced by a nonlinear temporal landscape. In such an Autonomous World, time could diverge from reality—featuring parallel dimensions, moments suspended in stasis, variable lag, and even the fantastical possibility of time travel. This departure from the traditional, linear progression of time could transform gameplay into a rich tapestry of cause and effect, where past, present, and future coalesce and separate in unexpected ways, providing a novel canvas for storytelling, strategy, and engagement.

Theme 4 AW Governance

In the intricate dance of AW Governance, it becomes evident that governance transcends being a mere facet of gameplay—it is the gameplay. This intertwining of governance with the core game mechanics transforms player participation into something far more profound than traditional interaction; it elevates players into architects of the game’s destiny.

In a digital agora, a nexus of interaction where the vibrant community—comprising artists, developers, and designers—engages in a continuous dialogue that shapes the very world they inhabit. Here, sticky notes on a wall are not just suggestions; they are proposals for new laws, systems, and societal norms within the Autonomous World. Discussions that spark here ripple through the AW, where every player's voice has weight, where every decision can reshape the landscape.

Theme 5 Off-chain Computation

Deliberations on off-chain computation reveal its indispensable role in elevating the scalability of AW applications. By delegating intricate computations away from the blockchain, it streamlines efficiency and slashes operational costs, thereby bolstering the overall performance of the AW infrastructure.

Theme 6 Distribution Channels

Investigations into distribution mechanisms illuminate their pivotal influence on AW reachability and allure. Robust and widespread distribution networks are instrumental in driving user adoption and fostering community expansion, serving as the lifeblood of AW proliferation.

Theme 7 Light Client

Analysis of light clients underscores their significance in democratizing AW access. These clients facilitate seamless blockchain interactions minus the computational heft of full nodes, enhancing the user experience and making the AW universe accessible to a broader audience, especially those with constrained technological capacity.
