The Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN) sector saw significant investment inflow during the first quarter of 2025. Crypto market analytics provider Messari reported that DePIN projects collectively raised over $150 million in funding during this period. This occurred even as generally bearish sentiment affected much of the broader altcoin market, highlighting growing investor interest in this specific niche. One crypto analyst posting on X (formerly Twitter), for example, recently highlighted several native tokens drawing user attention, including ATH, SPON, HEU, PEAQ, NATIX, and LMWR. It’s worth noting, however, that these specific tokens were not among the top 10 DePIN projects by market capitalization at the time of reporting. The analyst indicated the selection reflected their individual research focus rather than overall market ranking. Many analysts suggest the sector’s growth stems from its promise to improve the management and efficiency of real-world physical infrastructure. DePIN projects typically leverage blockchain and crypto-incentives to offer increased efficiency, greater transparency, and potential cost-effectiveness compared to traditional centralized systems. Their adoption appears to be growing, particularly in vital areas like energy distribution grids, telecommunications networks, mobility, and smart city development – sectors crucial for ongoing global infrastructure upgrades. Analysts often link the significant capital flowing into DePIN to the rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The tight integration of AI with potentially billions of connected IoT devices is expected to form the backbone of many future technology ecosystems. Within this context, experts believe decentralized networks will provide essential, robust infrastructure needed for efficient and secure data exchange between AI-driven applications and the vast array of sensors and devices powering them. This potential foundational role in supporting next-generation technology helps explain the increasing investor focus on the innovative DePIN ecosystem within the broader Web3 space. Portfolio strategy that has worked well for many of my friends in the space: Sit 100% in stables, and take individual bets when opportunities arise. Essentially, treating stables as your default position, and any altcoin trade as a deviation away from that position. It's not the right strategy for everyone, and you do need skill to manage the entries/exits of your active positions - but i've seen it work many times. Pros: • No downside risk (minus inflation/opportunity cost) • Liquidity to take advantage of big drawdowns whilst others panic • Less emotion • Leverage to go big when the stars align on a trade Cons: • Rules out long-term fundamental investing (where I have historically done well, alongside many others) • Requires a higher degree of skill with your active trades • Opportunity cost/risk of being caught off-side (slightly mitigated by the fact that in an uptrend, you're likely trading bullish continuation anyway) Currently, I am doing a 50/50 split. 50% long term, 50% stables (this strategy). That's where I am most comfortable, and what aligns the best with my temperament. The best strategy is the one which aligns with your own skills/pitfalls.

Bitpanda, the Vienna-based crypto asset platform, has secured a broker-dealer license from the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). The license enables Bitpanda to open its platform to users from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Securing the license is a significant step for Bitpanda, which already has a permanent office in Dubai at the DMCC Crypto Centre and a team of regional experts to develop products tailored to the UAE market. According to a statement, Bitpanda expects to start onboarding UAE users in the coming months. Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad, deputy CEO at Bitpanda Group, stated that obtaining the VARA license aligns with the company’s goal of making virtual assets secure and accessible. “With our VARA license, we are bringing that vision to the UAE, ensuring investors and financial institutions have access to a fully compliant digital asset platform. This is just the beginning of our expansion beyond Europe. We are ready to grow in a region that embraces innovation and regulation equally,” Enzersdorfer-Konrad said. Nadeem Ladki, global head of Bitpanda Technology Solutions, noted that obtaining the license is a milestone for the crypto asset platform as it kickstarts the expansion into the Middle East. According to the statement, the VARA broker license is a testament to Bitpanda’s proactive approach to regulation. The company currently holds several licenses, including a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) license from the German regulator BaFin. It is also registered with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and holds a Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) e-money license and a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II) license.
