Analyst: Trump's tariffs support the dollar in the short term, but the dollar may weaken seasonally in December
The analyst from Malayan Bank stated that the market's immediate reaction seemed negative after Trump's tariff announcement. The market might be wary of Trump gradually introducing tariffs, but the implementation may differ from the proposal. Under the influence of anxiety, the US dollar and its exchange rate with Asian currencies may receive short-term support. However, if this is all that Trump currently wants to say or if he encounters any obstacles, a stronger US dollar could ease off. Bessent, Trump's nominee for Treasury Secretary, is relatively steady while December could be a seasonally weak month for the US dollar.
