He argued that "recreating a virtual global gold standard would be a criminal act of monetary amnesia." However, the Canadian official also took issue with treating BTC as a store of value and cautioned against the coin's role in fueling a global speculative mania. In addition, Carney is considered an advocate for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). “The most likely future of money is a central bank stablecoin, known as a central bank digital currency or CBDC,” said Carney.
