According to Sina Finance, on the day DeepSeek officially clarified that it "has never issued any virtual currency", the prices of some counterfeit DeepSeek tokens quickly "cleared to zero". Multiple cryptocurrencies named after "DeepSeek", "DeepSeekAI", and "DeepSeekR1" have now ceased trading. Among these fake DeepSeek tokens, one called “Seek” was launched on January 28th. Before its sharp fall, its market value had reached $48 million. Security company BlockAid reported that 75 fake DeepSeek tokens have been created on Ethereum and Solana networks, with scam amounts reaching RMB 420 million. Lawyers warn that issuers of such virtual currencies may have malicious motives such as confusing the public, making quick profits, and evading regulation. At the same time, these cryptocurrency projects are small in scale and therefore easy to manipulate; their values can also drop rapidly or go down to zero. Once investors are taken advantage of by project parties ("harvested like leeks"), it is difficult to trace specific responsible individuals or entities.
