on February 8th, Bitwise's Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan stated that there is a huge disparity in sentiment between professional and retail investors in the cryptocurrency market. Retail investor sentiment is at its lowest level in years, while professional investors are extremely bullish on the market. The cryptocurrency fear and greed index shows that the index has dropped 25 points from 69 (greed) last month to 44 (fear). Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart pointed out that this is because retail investors hold a large amount of poorly performing altcoins and meme coins. Data shows that the top three meme coins by market capitalization have all dropped more than 20% in the past seven days, with Pepe dropping 35.31%, Shiba Inu dropping 20.82%, and Dogecoin dropping 24.69%.
