cryptocurrency exchange Creak announced that its American customers are once again available staking 17 crypto assets including Solana и Ethereum . For now, only users in 37 states will be able to use this feature.
Head of Customer Service Creak Mark Greenberg said the company was "excited to resume staking с Creak and play an important role in strengthening the underlying security of blockchain networks.”
Customers will be able to participate in pegged staking, where crypto assets are tied to the network for a certain period of time. Creak delegates pegged assets to validators, who then verify transactions and create blocks. These validators then pass on the rewards minus fees to customers who have pegged their assets to that validator, the exchange said in a statement.
The exchange suspended its staking services for U.S. customers about two years ago following allegations from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The agency said the company failed to register the offer and sale of its crypto asset staking program as a service. In February 2023 Creak settled the claims and agreed to pay a fine of $30 million.
Staking Restart Creak came after a change in the regulator's leadership. The new head of the SEC is expected to stop pressuring the crypto industry.
