ZachXBT aids US government in recovering $20M without reward
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has disclosed his pivotal role in assisting the US government recover a significant portion of $20 million stolen in a recent hack.
Despite this major contribution, he received no financial compensation for his efforts, raising concerns about the remuneration of independent investigators in the cryptocurrency sector.
“When the US government got hacked for $20 million a few months ago, I helped recover a sizable amount of those funds. Was rewarded zero for that,” stated ZachXBT, sharing his experience on social media.
His comments were made during a discussion on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed frustration over the lack of financial rewards despite his extensive work in the crypto space.
The blockchain investigator has been instrumental in uncovering numerous scams and holding perpetrators accountable.
His investigations have led to significant arrests, including two hackers involved in a $243 million crypto heist.
As discussions about fair compensation for investigative work gain traction, community support for ZachXBT is growing.
Joey Moose, a prominent figure in the NFT community, initiated a fundraising campaign to help compensate him for his invaluable contributions.
“Dude does nothing but help. If you made tons of money this week, consider sending something for good karma,” Moose stated.
However, some community members expressed skepticism about the campaign, given ZachXBT's existing public donation address.
