Anthropic set to reach $60B valuation after $2B funding deal

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, is reportedly in talks to raise $2 billion in a funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, potentially pushing its valuation to around $60 billion.

This would mark a dramatic increase from the company's $18 billion valuation in December 2023, representing a rise of over 230% in just one year.

The company's rapid growth has been supported by significant investments from major tech companies such as Amazon and Google, which invested multibillion-dollar sums into Anthropic throughout 2023 and 2024.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic launched its large language model, Claude, in 2023, positioning it as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which debuted in 2022.

As AI technology garners increasing attention, concerns about its impact on the workforce are rising.

One of Anthropic's main objectives is to create systems that could eventually demonstrate artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has suggested that AI could surpass human intelligence by 2026.

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has similarly predicted that AI agents may soon begin significantly reshaping the workforce.

This funding round is a critical step for Anthropic as it competes with other AI giants in the race to develop AGI technology.

However, details of the deal remain limited, as the company has not provided additional comments on the funding talks.
