On November 21, Phillip Banks, the creator of the CHILLGUY image, announced on social media platform X that he has officially obtained the legal copyright for this image. He stated that in the next few days he will issue deletion notices for unauthorized commercial use, including related merchandise and shitcoin. Phillip Banks emphasized that although he doesn't mind brand accounts using this image to lead trends, he still hopes to receive appropriate credit or other forms of recognition.
