A Florida judge has issued an order to remove over 100 web pages discussing a lawsuit involving TV legal commentator Kelly Hyman and her father. The order, issued by Judge Thomas J. Rebull, also bans negative comments about Hyman and her husband, former judge Paul Hyman, and prohibits sharing court documents. Ripple CTO David Schwartz criticized this order, calling it the “worst legal take of all time,” but faced criticism for his stance.

Attorney Laura Powell shared an X post explaining Hyman’s case. Hyman, a television legal commentator, sued her father, Arnold Alex Daoud, over property ownership. Daoud, the former mayor of Miami Beach, Florida, was indicted on 41 counts of bribery. Hyman convinced the judge to issue an order in her favor, but Powell pointed out several problems with the ruling.

Jurisdictional and Free Speech Concerns

The court does not have jurisdiction over the content creators and is infringing on their free speech rights. Also, affected parties were not notified or involved in the litigation, violating due process. Despite these issues, some news organizations have complied with the order.

The incident has generated diverse reactions. While many believe the court order is inappropriate, some support it. Schwartz has been criticized for speaking out against the order. One X user called Schwartz the “most ineffective CTO of all time,” to which he replied, “Ripple is always hiring.”
