MakerDAO considers abandoning Sky brand, will hold a poll on November 4
after rebranding and successfully launching the USDS stablecoin, MakerDAO is considering abandoning the Sky brand. The USDS stablecoin was launched in August with the aim of providing native token rewards and running alongside the existing DAI synthetic stablecoin, which remains unchanged. On-chain data shows its supply is $1.2 billion with a savings rate of 6.5%, and the community generally views this release as successful.
Sky co-founder Rune Christensen is currently considering three options to address community concerns: continue to use Sky as the core brand and build on its recent momentum, reposition the Maker brand to its original identity and restore MKR as the sole governance token, or bring Maker back with a completely new brand that is consistent with the current ecosystem while maintaining its existing trust and stability.
MakerDAO has already spent 13.79 million DAI and 9,535 MKR (about $25 million in total) on rebranding, and Christensen will hold a community conference call to collect feedback on the rebranding, followed by an official governance poll on November 4th to determine the next steps.
