  • Ripple CEO laments over the recent hack of the Indian Supreme Court’s YouTube to promote an XRP scam.
  • Brad Garlinghouse asserts that Ripple will never demand XRP from the public.
  • On Friday, the Supreme Court’s YouTube channel was hacked to lure viewers into a fraudulent XRP scheme.

The apex court of India got muddled in a bizarre situation when the premier court’s YouTube channel was used by hackers to promote a fraudulent XRP investment scheme; prompting a strong reaction from Ripple CEO, Brad Garlinghouse. He labeled the incident as “pathetic” and expressed frustration at the recurring nature of such scams.

Ripple’s Logo Used in Scam

On Friday, the Supreme Court’s YouTube channel, typically used for official announcements and judicial proceedings, got rebranded as “Ripple Official.” The scammers replaced the channel’s image with Ripple’s logo, trying to trick more than 217,000 followers into the crypto scam.

The hackers promoted Ripple and its XRP token through fake livestream videos on the channel. Viewers were tempted to take part in the scam through a suspicious video titled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP Price Prediction.” The hackers also got to change the channel’s URL and deleted most if not all of its previously published videos.

YouTube Takes Action, Court Promises Restoration

Soon enough, YouTube removed the hacked channel, stating, “This channel was removed because it violated our ‘community guidelines.’ The Supreme Court also announced they were working to restore the channel’s functionality and taking steps to ensure its future safety. Though the court hasn’t specified when the channel will be back up, their notice assured it will be; “shortly.”

Garlinghouse, responding to Ripple’s name and XRP token being used by the scammers, asserted that Ripple or its executives will never ever make demands to its community for XRP tokens. He also strongly condemned the hackers who prey on the community and exploit the social media platform’s vulnerabilities.

Garlinghouse directed the community’s attention to Ripple’s official page, which is dedicated to warning the community about fraudulent activities. As crypto scams become a growing concern and Garlinghouse is increasingly being used in deep-fakes and other XRP scams, Ripple has taken proactive steps to combat these frauds. The page outlined essential security measures for the community to adopt and avoid falling victim to the hacks.
