A solo Bitcoin miner defied the odds last week, processing a block and earning a 3.125 BTC reward. Including transaction fees, the total payout was $259,637. This is just one of several solo wins in recent months.
Although solo mining is still akin to playing the lottery, solo miners are succeeding more often, though not dramatically. In 2022, solo miners using Solo CKPool solved 7 blocks. In 2023, this increased to 12, and by 2024, it reached 16 blocks.
Solo mining doesn’t always mean someone is mining alone with minimal resources. Services like Solo CKPool allow miners to keep nearly all rewards once a block is mined. While solo mining is tough, the rise of hobby mining rigs like Bitaxe and FutureBit Apollo is helping more individuals succeed, even if the odds are slim.
